Unlayer Studio Alternative: Move Your Emails to Blocks

· Blocks team · 5 min read

Unlayer Studio, the email design app for freelancers, agencies and marketing teams, was retired on June 30, 2026. If you built your emails there, you need an Unlayer Studio alternative and a way to bring your work with you. This guide covers what exactly was shut down, where to find the HTML of your emails now that the Studio account is closed, and how to move them to Blocks in three steps.

What happened to Unlayer Studio

According to Unlayer’s announcement, “as of July 1, 2026, Studio is fully shut down”:

  • Studio accounts are no longer accessible, and Studio data “will be deleted in line with our retention policy”.
  • June 30, 2026 was a firm deadline: Unlayer did not extend access for individual users.
  • Before the shutdown there was no bulk export: templates could only be downloaded one at a time.
  • Unlayer does not offer a migration path from Studio. The company now focuses on Unlayer Embed, an editor that developers build into their own apps. It is a different product, not a replacement for Studio.

What happens to the images in your Unlayer emails

Unlayer says that images hosted through Studio “have stopped loading” in emails you created or sent. These are the images you uploaded yourself: logos, photos, banners. Their addresses start with assets.unlayer.com.

Default editor images, such as social media icons and placeholders, live on cdn.tools.unlayer.com. As of October 2026 they still load, but Unlayer listed them among the assets to move away, so replace them too.

To find all of these images, open the HTML of an email in a text editor and search for unlayer.com, as Unlayer suggested. If some of your images still show up in your emails, save copies now while they are still available.

Where to find the HTML of your emails

You can no longer export anything from Studio, but your emails may still exist elsewhere. Studio let you download an email as a file, export it to an email service provider or send it to Gmail drafts. Check these places:

  • Files you downloaded before June 30. Look for HTML files on your computer or in your team’s shared folders.
  • Your email service provider. If you exported emails from Studio to Mailchimp or another service, the templates may still be there. Copy or export their HTML and save it as a file.
  • Gmail drafts. Studio could send an email straight to your Gmail drafts. Open the draft, send it to yourself and download the message as an .eml file.
  • Your inbox. Any email you sent to your own address or to a test list is a full copy. Save it as an .eml file from your email app.

If none of these work, the email has to be rebuilt. You don’t have to start from scratch: pick a close design from our free email templates.

How to move your emails to Blocks in three steps

1. Sign up and turn on the free trial

Create a Blocks account. Importing emails is part of the paid plans, so turn on the free 14-day trial: it opens the whole editor, and you don’t need a credit card. That is enough time to bring over and fix your emails before you choose a plan.

2. Import your emails

On your project page, click Import email from file and choose an HTML, EML or ZIP file. The email opens in the editor in a few minutes (how importing works).

Blocks reads templates made in Unlayer and other editors and splits them into editable blocks on upload: see how the HTML email converter works. Images that still load are copied into your project’s storage automatically.

3. Replace the images

The images that Unlayer no longer serves stay broken after the import. Click each broken image in the editor and upload your own copy of it. Then send yourself a test email and check every image.

Your images are stored in Blocks with no time limit. If you’d rather keep them on your own server, connect FTP or S3-compatible storage in the project settings (storage settings).

Moving from another editor too?

Blocks imports emails from other editors in the same way. The migration page explains how it works, and our Unlayer review covers Unlayer Embed and how it compares with Blocks, Beefree and Stripo.
